Full Visibility Into Sprawling Healthcare Facilities

Hospitals are intricate environments where maintaining operational clarity across departments and buildings is a constant challenge. At one of Hong Kong’s largest hospital campuses, several key blind spots disrupted daily operations: staff were unsure of room availability, environmental conditions in sensitive areas were unmonitored, and door security breaches often went undetected. Without real-time insight, small oversights could escalate into serious disruptions—delaying care, risking inventory, and compromising safety.

Minew’s Real-Time Hospital Facility Monitoring solution transformed these challenges by creating a centralized LoRaWAN-based sensor network spanning inpatient buildings, clinics, and administrative areas. This solution enabled long-range, low-power connectivity with minimal infrastructure investment—just a few gateways served the entire campus.

The system integrates four types of sensors working in tandem:

  • PIR and door sensors continuously report room occupancy, showing staff which consultation rooms are free, in use, or left open. This allows for smoother scheduling and fewer patient care interruptions.
  • Temperature and humidity sensors are deployed in equipment and medication storage areas, ensuring that environmental parameters stay within safe limits. If thresholds are exceeded, real-time alerts are sent to staff to prevent damage or regulatory violations.
  • Air quality sensors monitor CO₂ levels, particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), allowing facilities managers to address ventilation problems before they affect health or comfort.
  • Door security sensors detect if restricted areas are accessed at unusual times or left open unintentionally, protecting sensitive areas from unauthorized entry.

All data is delivered through a centralized dashboard that provides real-time visibility across the facility. Because these battery-powered sensors are ultra-low-power, they operate for years without maintenance—ideal for high-volume environments like hospitals.

The system not only solves current facility challenges but is built for long-term scalability. Additional IoT capabilities such as asset tracking or panic-button alerts can be added as needed, making this a future-proof investment in hospital intelligence.

Benefits

check

Know Room Availability Instantly

A live dashboard shows real-time consultation room occupancy, saving time and eliminating scheduling disruptions. Staff no longer need to knock or search manually, improving patient flow and reducing frustration.

check

Ensure Safe & Compliant Environments

Continuous environmental monitoring in storage areas ensures medications and equipment remain in optimal conditions. Automatic alerts for unsafe temperature or humidity conditions prevent damage and help maintain regulatory compliance.

check

Detect Open Doors & Unauthorized Entry

Door sensors monitor sensitive areas 24/7. If a door is left open or accessed unexpectedly, staff receive instant notifications, helping secure restricted areas and maintain hygiene protocols.
